Saved By Skateboarding: Skateistan

Being a child in Afghanistan is not easy. Of its 30 million inhabitants, 43% are 14 years or less, according to CIA data. To reach puberty in this former British protectorate-board of what Rudyard Kipling called the 'Great Game' between the West and Russia must overcome the statistic: 121.63, for every 1,000 babies born, end up dying during the first year.

In this context where Skateistan moves on, an NPO (non-profit organization) created in Afghanistan using the skateboard as a hook to get  Afghans kids into education based on  values and knowledge. Co-founded by two Australians, Oliver Percovich and Sharna Nolan, the success of the idea has been such that branches hace been in Pakistan and Cambodia.

All started when these two skaters arrived in Kabul. While practicing with their skateboard through the streets of the Afghan capital, the boys from the area were approached to try to learn about that  board and four wheels. Using as an old Russian source skatepark and three tables provided by local skaters, Percovich and Nolan began to teach skater teens in Kabul.

Nyjah Huston Won The Street League Second Stop! Unstoppable!

Nyjah Huston was once again in victory at the second stop of the Street League 2012 which took place in Ontario, California. As he did at the first stop (Kansas City) Nyjah lend the best tricks (one such was a Kick Flip Backside caballerial Lipslide in the Best Trick) to take home $ 150,000.

Second and third place were Chaz Ortiz and Sean Malto who fought very hard in the championship game but were unable to perform Nyjah's tricks, which seems to be unstoppable in terms of championships are concerned.

Known for his crazy and noisy lifestyle, Bam "The Bam" Margera has been chosen as the skater of today!

Bam, although he's first name is Brandom Cole, is maybe one of the most notorious skaters, not only for his improvements to skateboarding as a sport, but also as a television image and the representative for young generation. As it is well known by the audience, Margera also is considered, as well as Dyrdeck, one of the most charismatic riders out there, and maybe this is because he has received thousand of prizes, as well as the public recognition. hate it or love it, Margera has develop a successful career, which includes being part of the CKY stunt team, and also of the worldwide recognized extreme and silly stunts tv show, JACKASS.

Being MTV the place that has given popularity to this rider, Bam is also grateful of his sponsors, such as ELEMENT SKATEBOARD, the one that have represented him since hi was a young boy. Bam is known also for his passion to rock music, in fact his love for the metal band HIM is front of our eyes, noticeable on the several tattoos on his body.
